Kanye 2020

We all remember back in the 2015 VMA show when Kanye West announced that he will be running for the Presidency of the United States of America in 2020, right? It became a massive thing on social media and news outlets with quite a variety of reactions worldwide. Some thought it was a publicity stunt; while others made predictions about what his presidency would mean for the country’s future. However, I think we can all agree that for most, it was simply a good laugh, especially for the non-Americans.

Even if you may not be an American citizen nor directly affected by the 2020 U.S. Elections, it’s inevitable to have various extents of interest and awareness of them. Some kept up accompanied by tremendous levels of (justifiable) anxiety, and the rest accompanied by a couple of pals and a bag of popcorn, extra large and extra butter.

This year’s election held such a high importance for many. Consequently, the spotlight was placed on the two most realistic candidates: U.S. President Donald Trump and Former Vice-President Joseph Biden. However, some had an eye for another candidate…

Suppose you have not been actively keeping up with the 2020 U.S. Elections. In that case, you may have entirely or partly missed a lil something, because I certainly did, which is that Kanye West was actually a candidate in the presidential race. Yup, it’s even in his Google biography: “Kanye Omari West, American rapper and 2020 candidate for U.S. President.” A man that does it all.

The rapper ran as an Independent, got endorsed by Elon Musk and by the end of the election period, he even managed to obtain 60,000 votes. One of those votes was actually from Kanye himself, which, ironically, has been the first time he has ever voted. He tweeted:

“God is so good. Today I am voting for the first time in my life for the President of the United States, and it’s for someone I truly trust…me.”

As you may have known by now, Kanye did not win. In fact, sometime during election night, when elected president Joe Biden made his speech, Kanye went to Twitter with what seemed to be another presidential announcement, “Welp Kanye 2024”.

It’s interesting to think what election night and what the four upcoming years would have looked like for America and the rest of the world if Kanye was elected President. During election time, it was often said that a vote for Kanye is a vote for Trump because Kanye has not been shy about his support for the current U.S. president. So while there would possibly not be many changes of values and beliefs in the Whitehouse, the American rapper and reality TV star would find a way to spice things up without a doubt. Shame Keeping up with the Kardashians is in its final season because the next four years under Kanye presidency would have been four exciting seasons to capture. And that, would be an understatement!

How many of those votes were just fun and games and how many were genuine? Did Kim Kardashian vote against her own husband? Who knows, but believe that there are people for everything. As amusing as Kanye’s presidential campaign has been, whether you are a Kanye fan or not, whether you support his political visions or reject them, we gotta give it to the man for his ambition and his tremendous amount of confidence.
But for the Kanye political supporters out there, don’t lose hope and stay tuned…
